History of Chef Richard Marcus and The Catered Table

Even as a little boy, standing on a stool in his family’s kitchen, Marcus understood that food keeps families together, and defines whole communities – and society.

“The celebration of food, defines us as a people”. He says

His introduction to cooking was with the famous Chicago Chefs, Antoinette and Francois Pope. They probably had the first black and white televised cooking program long before Julia Childs, at the PBS Station in Chicago.

Intrigued by cooking, Richard had his Mother take him to the studio and convinced the Director to allow him to stand in the wings as the program was broadcast live. This classic combination of Italian and French cooking styles has influenced him throughout his life.

Continuing to cook and entertain, Marcus had a successful career in business and manufacturing.

Marcus first visited the Bitterroot Valley during a camping trip after college in 1970. The beautiful Mountains surrounding the valley and the amiable people so greatly appealed to him, he moved his family to the Bitterroot Valley, in the mid 1980’s.

Always an entrepreneur, Marcus and his Wife bought a building in Stevensville, starting several small businesses including, “The Catered Table.”

From humble beginnings as a catering service, Marcus and his Wife never gave up on their dreams to one day take over their building of residence and eventually open their own restaurant.

The new Catered Table Restaurant was founded on a sincere desire to bring the community together, in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Distinctive and sumptuous creations abound, featuring the finest selections of Seafood, Steaks, Pasta, Homemade Desserts, Fine World Beers and an International selection of the finest wines. Casual dining, with delectable fare.

With great affection Marcus notes, “I can’t do this without my Wife, who is my best friend and loving partner. Though she never had formal cooking lessons, her passion for cooking makes her my equal in the kitchen.”

In 2013, after a lifetime watching his parents cook, their Son Philip joined the family business, with an undergraduate degree from the prestigious Cornish School of Arts in Seattle. He obtained his Masters in Art from the University of Montana.

A natural cook with his own passion to create art on the plate, Philip has brought a new dimension to the menu. “I have a plaque on the wall of my kitchen that reads, ‘The preparation and serving of food is how I show love to my friends and family’ .”

A mere 25-minute drive from Missoula or Hamilton, Marcus and his Family invite you to The Catered Table, located at: 205 Main Street. Downtown Stevensville.

Open from Tuesdays to Saturdays for Dinner from 5:00 to 9:00pm. Open on Sundays as well, from 5:00 to 8:00pm.
